Valerie Sirr has been teaching Creative Writing in Crumlin College Evening School for six years.  Her class is very popular and many students return for further courses.  Valerie’s students are all ages and come from all backgrounds.  This diversity contributes to the vitality of her class and she encourages the students to learn from each other’s work.

Valerie harnesses the students’ creativity through writing exercises and soon they are able to write finished stories and poetry. Her students have had great success in the City of Dublin ETB sponsored SCC Creative Writing competition.

Valerie Sirr is an extremely reliable and conscientious teacher.  Her dedication to her students and her professionalism are highly valued and her Creative Writing class is an essential component of the Crumlin College Adult Education programme.

Valerie Sirr has taught Creative Writing at the People’s College for several years  –  her course this year was  “Creative Writing Workshop”. At the College she deals with people of all backgrounds and relates well with her students – communicating in an accessible and effective manner.

She is  an organised and reliable teacher who shows flair and initiative in her work. In addition to developing the creative writing skills of the students she initiates them into the means of publishing and preparing work for competitions.  In addition to teaching her course, she co-edits an annual collection of writings produced by members of the two writing groups in the college.

She makes a valued contribution to the work of the College.

The People’s College is an adult education organisation, close to the trade union movement, which provides evening courses in a wide range of subjects for trade unionists, their families and the general public.
